Turning 40 and Celebrating 45

 My sweet girl turned 40 last week. WHAT????? Didn't I just 40 last year? HAHAHAHAHA......

With help from her friend I was able to contact a few of her work friends as a surprise and boy was she surprised. She was beyond thrilled and happy to celebrate her special day with family and friends.

Our backyard certainly was feeling the love.

Oh ya and these 2 celebrated 45 years of wedded bliss.....

Peaches for Everyone

 Here in Ontario it is peach season. Can we ever have enough of this sweet juicy fruit? I never buy peaches out of season. I make as many peachy goodness recipes as I can in this very short month.  And I freeze a few bagfulls to have for peachy recipes in those horribly long winter months. This year may be a bit different with the move but I am going to try to do the best I can.

My tomatoes are ripening fast and furious. Did you know you should pick your fruit before it ripens? Let it sit on a window sill or counter. You won't have to deal with blossom end rot. 

Thank goodness for raised garden beds. With the amount of rain we have had and are expecting it helps a wee bit. I do have 3 plants in the greenhouse that are doing ok. They may need to be put in bigger pots. That may be a project for next week.

Hope to get a few bags of these too. I  freeze skinless whole tomatoes in freezer bags. If there is time this year I may make a couple jars of salsa.

HB's birthday was at the start of the month.  He decided he wanted a quiet celly just us. I was in charge of making the pizza and a wee sweet . Peach, prosciutto, 2 cheese, basil,  with a balsamic glaze. 

It was delicious.

 I found a recipe for a mini cheesecake that was enough for us.

I really wish we could just hop on a jet plane and be there to celebrate with her.
She has had a pretty rough 6 months but she has realized how strong a woman she is.
We are so proud of you hunny and LOVE you very much ...

..... and believe it or not these lil munchkins start school today....

Someone had a Birthday

Yup and that someone is me!
Starting another decade .... or as some kind friend said "the winter of my life"  WHAT????
Winter?? I hate winter.

I still feel like perhaps the late summer. Ya I like that better.
I had an absolutely fab day --- spoiled beyond belief.
HB organized a facial and mani at my favourite spa for the afternoon.

Then he prepared an awesome meal for me and a few very dear friends and our fav Arnprior ites
Lots of my favourite foods ---

 scallops

chicken with garlic in a white wine sauce

 homemade dinner rolls

 

 

 

 

 

Our friends contributed too with a mixed garden vegetable salad and a scrumdilicious spinach salad.

 

Ended the meal with Siobhan's famous Hummingbird cake

A wonderful day for a Two Year Old Birthday party.
Beautiful and sunny!
Sio's friends from college who live in the Toronto area came for the party.
It's quite the drive for them and even longer for Mandi as she has an 18 month old .
What great friends eh??

It was an awesome day altho I still can't believe you are TWO!!!!

A Proper Birthday Post

I really only mentioned the kiddos birthday in my last post.
So here is a proper BD one.....
They turned 5 !!!!!! 5!!!!!

Where did those 5 years go?????

They had a party at a local spray park with all their friends the week before I arrived.
My visit was kind of spur of the moment and the party had been planned :-(

But that was okay.... cuz they got 2 celebrations...

The evening before their momma decorated the breakfast table...

 

 

You will notice the paper balloons ----- I took a stance many many years ago to forego balloons and I am glad to say my girls are continuing this tradition.
I made buttermilk pancakes with lots of fruit for breakfast...


Then it was off to Toys R Us and Boston Pizza for lunch....

After such a big meal no one was really hungry for a BIG supper so we settled with Nachos and all the fixins ---- MMMMMMMMM!!!!

Holly stopped at a local bakery and got cupcakes. She got them to put their initials on it.

So it was a terrific day.... I am so happy I got to celebrate this important day.....
