Kool Aid and Vintage Musings

This time of year brings on memories of
my sweet mother and Nana.

Maybe it just makes me think of those carefree days of childhood ---- riding bicycles -- drinking kool aid (o dear I can't imagine what colour my insides

look like) -- playing red light -- going home when the street lights came on -- a quick bath -- snack -- slipping into cool crisp cotton sheets -- then getting up the next day to do it all again.

Recently I have become quite enamored with vintage everything.
I inherited quite a few linens from my mother in law.
As well as lovely platters and jugs.
Please indulge part my collection

I use all of these things on perhaps not a daily but quite regular basis.
The image of linens flapping in a warm summer breeze .......
I want to start looking in thrift stores for vintage pillow cases and anything else I can find.
I have also seen instructions on how to crochet edging onto pillow cases.

Uh oh ----- another project!!!!!
I did see a set of dishes in a little store on our main street that I really have to check out.

Here are a cream and sugar that dates back to the late 1700's
It has been passed on to me from my grandmother and I believe was brought to Canada by her family from France or Switzerland when they emigrated

Don't get me wrong I love my modern conveniences too.

Couldn't live without my stand mixer
and rockin red food processor
my HD TV
and couldn't just wouldn't give up my Android phone
o yes and frozen puff pastry

I guess I am thinking to myself that right now I am lucky to be living the life I am.

Early Morning Pugilism

Whatta day!!
I was awoken at 5:10 by such violent hissing and squealing I jumped out of bed to see what was going on
I am glad my neighbours were not up yet or they would have found a glassless, pantless woman squirting the hose at a couple of very upset pussy cats.
Sorry no pics --- of the pussy cats or the woman.

So after all this excitement I couldn't go back to bed so my day started early.

I got lots of tidying, and weeding in the garden done.
Harvested some lavender.
Lemon lavender madeleines coming up........

I harvested the garlic too.

A wee bit small but certainly smells like garlic.

While I was sweeping the cob webs from the front entrance I found this guy

Its called a Polyphemus Moth

I think it may be an early night tonight.
I've been watching Justified and am now up to the start of Season 3.
Hmmmm Popping into bed early with Timothy Olyphant.........

Ready for Miss D

She is almost here....
So here is a glimpse of how things are going
Her bedroom is ready for her

Her Nona has been feverishly sewing lots of things .. burp cloths.... hooded towels
I was so excited to give them over to Mommy and Daddy I forgot to take pics.

A little sun dress

More dresses and sun hats to come.

She is in what is called Frank Breech which means not only is she bum down .... her little legs are folded up over her face.
as my son in law Will has put it .......  She is in a pike position
So this means that a caesarean section is probably the order.
Doctor appointment this week to verify dates.
we are over the moon that we will be meeting our sweet lil Daphne soon.

Grand Kiddos are Three

We have been having wonderfully hot and humid Ontario summer weather.
Lots of lemonade
and salads for supper.
It is difficult to pick up the knitting needles for a big project but I have been crocheting dish cloths and little motifs from the yarn stash for a baby blanket.

My gran Kiddos turned three this year ...... T-H-R-E-E.
It was a Toy Story theme party

Image from Internet

Sadly Nona and Bapa could not be there
My daughter asked if I could make Riley a pillow case dress in the theme of Jessie
Of course I would.
Off to the fabric store ...... Do you know how hard it is to find cow print fabric?? So I improvised .......

What do you think?
Cute hunh?
And of course I had to make Miles a Woody vest

Complete with a Sheriff's badge

Unfortunately I guess they just were not in the moods to wear them :-(
